what is circling?

circling (now officially renamed to transformational connection) is a relational practice where we explore what it’s like to be with each other in the present moment. the focus isn’t on our ideas, or stories of who we are, but on what’s ephemeral, what’s happening right now – emotions, physical sensations in the body, fleeting images or phrases.
circling tends to reveal things we don’t usually notice in everyday conversation – subtle tensions in our body, an almost imperceptible squeeze of fear in the chest, where we defend rather than listen. the practice can bring awareness to unconscious behaviours and patterns in how we relate, and offer a clearer sense of who we are.
people speak from their direct experience, often naming subtle shifts in their experience or in the quality of the connection. this may look like sitting in silence, naming discomfort, following a sense of aliveness, or being with emotion.
this practice can feel nourishing, playful, confronting, challenging, and deeply moving
it’s not about getting somewhere, healing, fixing, or changing. but about being with what is. tasting all the beautiful, bizarre, mysterious flavours of what it is to be alive.
like the lovely ts eliot quote:
“we shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time”
